JUSTICE A.K. PATNAIK

Justice A K Patnaik was elevated as a Judge of High Court of Orissa in January 1994 and was immediately transferred to Gauhati High Court in February 1994. After a tenure of eight years as a Judge of Gauhati High Court, he was transferred back to the Orissa High Court in April 2002. After a stint of about three years as a Judge of Orissa High Court, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Chhatisgarh High Court and thereafter was transferred as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court in October 2005. In November 2009, he was appointed as Judge of the Supreme Court and he retired from the Supreme Court in June 2014. Presently, Justice Patnaik is busy as an Arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations in India and abroad. He is also giving legal opinions to Government Agencies, Public Sector Organisations and Private Corporate Houses in different fields of law. Justice Patnaik is presently also working as the Oversight Authority appointed by the Supreme Court to ensure proper utilisation of funds collected as penalty for unauthorised mining in Odisha for providing piped drinking water to every tribal house, education and livelihood to the tribal children and health facilities in the mining districts of Odisha. As Handloom and Handicrafts are sources of livelihood in the tribal and rural areas, Justice Patnaik has developed interest in Handlooms and Handicrafts and has become member of ‘SHRADDHA’.
